Claims Consortium Group has launched a new City & Guilds Accredited programme in ‘Building Construction for Claims Handlers’.
The 6-day course has six modules that cover key elements of building theory including roofing, walls, flooring, decoration, electrics and plumbing. Currently the course is included in Claims Consortium’s thorough induction training for claims handlers, part of their Academy on-boarding process.
Additionally the course is being offered to external companies including insurers, building service providers and other firms where construction theory would help in staff roles.
Martyn Sedlen, Technical Manager at Claims Consortium, devised the course. He said: “The course is designed to build confidence in several areas of construction theory that you wouldn’t ordinarily come across in daily life. Every trainee completing it will now have a City & Guilds Accredited certificate, which is great for their career and progression.
“When our claims handlers talk to policyholders it is vital that that they can understand and interpret the type of peril that they are dealing with. The City & Guilds Accreditation was an obvious choice, since the brand is so widely known for qualifications in the building trades. Their Accreditation process has been incredibly thorough which we think underlines the significance of this new course to our industry.”
Steve Lloyd, the Accreditation approval consultant from City & Guilds, said: “Thanks are due to Martyn Sedlen for his time and efforts in preparing for the visit. I am happy to recommend the Accreditation for what I think will be a very successful programme, both internally and externally.”

Claims Consortium aims to put 40 to 50 trainees through the course each year from its internal staff, and welcomes enquiries from firms that believe they will benefit from the course.
