New careers role appointment for CII
25th July 2017
Claims Consortium Group’s Claire Lashbrook has taken on the role of Careers Advisor for the Exeter branch of the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII), a new role to encourage young professionals into the sector.
31 year old CII council member Claire is currently studying for her own Diploma in Insurance, and will help others looking to take a similar professional qualification or begin an apprenticeship scheme while also visiting schools and colleges to talk about the opportunities within the insurance sector.
Claire says: “There is a stigma attached to the profession that portrays it as an unattractive career option. But it is actually an exciting time to be working in insurance – for one, evolving technology is having an interesting impact. I intend to share information around the many career opportunities available from underwriting to claims handling, to IT developer and statistician.”
The insurance sector is one of the vital components of the global financial services profession, employing millions of people worldwide and as of 2014, the global insurance market was worth $4,778bn.
Matthew Pyke, President of the Insurance Institute of Exeter, commented: “As a local institute we are delighted that Claire is prepared to give up her time to support and promote the profession within our region. She has shown real enthusiasm and commitment to the task of encouraging others like her to discover the multitude of exciting opportunities that now exist within our profession.”
In support of the appointment, Debbie Mawer, Director or People and Culture at Claims Consortium Group, said: “We are proud to see Claire take on this role and support the CII in shaping the future workforce. There is a great deal of young talent in the region which would suit the sector’s challenges and in return receive a guided and supported career development with fantastic opportunities available.”
Claire will begin school and college visits in the autumn.
